Mary-Kate Olsen born June 13, 1986 is an American actress, fashion designer, producer, author, and businesswoman. She co-founded luxury fashion brand The Row and the more affordable line Olsenboye alongside her fraternal twin sister Ashley Olsen, Olsen pursued acting independently as an adult until 2012. Mary-Kate is younger than Ashley by two minutes.

She was born in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Jarnette (née Jones), a personal manager, and David Olsen, a real estate developer and mortgage banker. She has an older brother, Trent, and a younger sister, Elizabeth Olsen. Mary-Kate began her career in 1987, aged just nine months old, when she and her twin sister Ashley were given a shared role as Michelle Tanner on the television show Full  House. The twins were cast as one character in the shared role because of labor laws that limited the amount of time children their age could work. By hiring twins, the producers were able to double the available filming time. The producers also liked that in their audition, Mary-Kate and Ashley loved playing their role and never cried.
