Personal Life

Mhairi Calvey was born on May 7th, 1988 in Glasgow, UK to a South African mother Dominique Calvey and Scottish father Chris Calvey, who divorced when Mhairi was just two. Dominique then moved with her daughter to the Isle Of Arran on the West Coast of Scotland where she spent the rest of her childhood. Related to actor Wolf Kahler acting is in the blood which meant Mhairi was a film buff from an early age 'As a child I remember skipping school just so I could stay at home and watch old black and white movies...' Suddenly at the age of five Mhairi was to make her first debut on the Silver Screen when she played the 'Young Murron' in Mel Gibson's film "Braveheart", after the film Dominique got advice from a movie casting director, it was decided, it was not a good idea for Mhairi to enter the world of becoming a child star; Mhairi returned to school and started in the Theatre. Dominique struggled to support her daughter being a single parent. When Mhairi was 11 Dominique decided to seek a better life for her daughter and they moved to North Yorkshire, England. Mhairi suffered from bullying a lot at school from both teachers and students -  'I went to a rough school it taught me how to survive and my way of coping was to seek refuge in acting which meant I couldn't do my times tables but I could list every actor, director and filmmaker in almost any movie.' When Mhairi went to college she was spotted for the second time in her life by a Theatre Director Sam Beswick who saw Miss Calvey's talent in a one women show she performed at York college. During her college years Mhairi made contact with the actors James Robinson 'Young William Wallace' and Andrew Weir 'Young Hamish Campbell' (Braveheart), and 2006 Mhairi flew to New York to take part in Dressed to Kilt along with her co - actors, James and Andrew. It was the first time they were all seen together since they were kids. In New York Miss Calvey took part in the event with fellow Scots Sir Sean Connery and Brian Cox amongst many others. Then later on that year Miss Calvey was invited back to Dressed to kilt this time to go to L.A where she met Linda Hamilton, Ashley Jensen and again many more. At 18 Mhairi was accepted with Scholarship into the Guildford School of Acting. 'Drama school isn't everything it doesn't get you a career it teaches you about yourself - take what you need and leave the rest.' At the age of just 21 Mhairi started her own film company Keyscreen Productions Ltd and alongside her acting career she began Directing, Producing and Writing her own films. Inspired by filmmakers Quentin Tarantino, Baz Luhrmann, Robert Rodriguez and of course Mel Gibson.
